It can happen to the best of us, life is going great and boom, your cycle hits and everything is wrong with the world and to top it all you feel, and maybe look, like crap.

One of the first things to remember about your cycle is that you do have less energy (not to mention patience) at this time of the month, try not to over schedule your time where you have a choice. Being able to take a pause is the perfect segue into my next tip and the purpose of this post.

One of the many reasons I feel deeply in love with Kundalini yoga was not because someone told me it would make me feel better. I had never heard of it when I did my first practice at sunrise in the mountains at Harbin HotSprings 15 years ago. The reason I fell for it then and there was the way it made me feel.

I was truly a basket case at the time, like most of America! I was continually searching outside of myself to prove my worth, of course I didn’t know it at the time. I kept striving for the next achievement to show I have value in the world, that if you can do it, I can do it, and I bet I find a better way. Always wanting to be better and better.

The only problem with better as a destination is that there is no end point, it is like the greyhound chasing the rabbit that will never come to dinner around the race track. You never get there and it’s an exhausting process.

Kundalini slowed down the outside world and introduced me to myself, my inner world, my Soul. My dear Soul that I didn’t even know was there. Put hormonal craziness on top of that and you have a hot mess on your hands, no fun for you or those around you.

It doesn’t have to be that way. I have the perfect meditation for you. You can do it every day, including during your cycle.

This meditation is perfect to cool the heat (some may call it rage) we can feel with hormonal changes associated with our monthly cycles and menopause. You don’t have to suffer through and feel miserable once a month, sit and try this meditation with me. Make it part of your daily practice.

Left nostril breathing is a cooling and calming breath, whereas right nostril breathing is a warming breath and an energizer. Using both balances the body and mind. In this meditation we concentrate on left nostril breathing.

Benefits of left nostril breathing:
Brings balance to the hemispheres of the brain;
It is a powerful tonic for the nervous and glandular systems: and
helps maintain a sense of balance, ease and Spirit throughout hormonal changes associated with perimenopause, our monthly cycles, and menopause. Who doesn’t want a piece of that pie?
